What Are Instagram Reels?
Instagram reels are short-form videos (just a few seconds long) containing multiple video clips or photos. The videos are put to an audio soundtrack or music.
You can share your reels on your Instagram story and your main grid. Many reel formats go viral, and people use the same audio or soundtrack to add original images or videos.
Are Instagram reels just Instagram’s way to try and keep up with TikTok and win over some of their users? Maybe. Learn more about TikTok vs. Instagram reels.
How To Make Reels On Instagram
You need to start by clicking the + symbol at the top of your Instagram homepage. Then slide through the selection and pick reels.
There are two options here; you can film the reel content live through the Instagram app or upload photos or videos that are already saved to your camera roll.
If you want to film live content for your reel, you can choose to add a filter to the video or photo by scrolling through the different filter options at the bottom. You can also select how long you want the video to film for, which gives you the option to film hands-free.
You are then able to upload photos or video clips to include in your reel. You can use the scissor icon to cut or edit the length of your clip.
Once you decide which content to include, you can edit it by adding text. Use the slider at the bottom to choose where in the final video your text will appear.
After sequencing your clips, it’s time to choose the audio. You can select a song on Instagram’s library of songs to find one you want to add. Once you select the audio, there’s an option at the bottom of the screen to choose which part of the song you want to use.
